Speaking Outside the Fishbowl

This morning while viewing twitter, I saw that CC Chapman had posted a new article. As I was reading I saw the topic on "Speak More Outside the Fishbowl". This caught my eye as it is something that I think everyone needs to do in the space that we have created. This is a topic that is near and dear to me and something that I try to do on a daily basis with friends and family. The picture here is of my mother on my mac and we are talking on Skype. She is 62 years young and has only used her computer for e-mail and light browsing. While home in October to announce our pregnancy we decided to run to Best Buy and get her a webcam. The weekly ritual is not on the telephone anymore, but on the computer. And free...... When my brother was deployed his children were able to see him every night. It has improved our families lives greatly.

MySpace for what it is worth is a great platform. We scoff at it as "New Media Experts", but it has brought more people into the space than all the "A" list bloggers combined and it is continuing to grow. As a manager for Best Buy, the one greatest thing I taught the employees was to talk in people speak and not geek speak. If you went to your doctor and he told you that your child had Osgood-Schlatter Disease you would probably freak out. But if he told you that it is pain in your knee caused by growth spurts, you would be alright with it. Do not scoff at MySpace, but embrace it as a platform to reach the unknowing. Remember you play in the space hourly. They do it weekly, Maybe.

So, this is my first true post to any blog I have had. Maybe I will continue to do so if I can keep my thoughts to one subject at a time.
